Though clubs specialize on breeding pure bred animals, there are still a lot of dogs that are not purebred but mixed with other breeds. A mongrel or mutt may have very loyal and friendly character. The purebred animals are about 24-27 inches (61-69 cm) high for the dogs and 22-25 inches (56-63 cm) high for the bitches. The average weight is about 95-130 pounds (43-59 kg) for the dogs and 85-115 pounds (38-52 kg) for the bitches.

Being very energetic and agile, these dogs need much exercise and are not happy sitting at the owner’s lap and doing nothing all day. An opportunity to run in a large yard keeps the dog exercised and reduces boredom. An opportunity to play outdoors with other pets may prevent destructive behavior in a puppy, if the owner has no opportunity to supervise it constantly. Owners who interact with the dog and walk it on a regular basis form more personal and bonding relationship with the pet than busy owners who let the dog run free in the yard.
